New Delhi: Kaayum Pegu, a 20-year-old Delhi University student pursuing English Honours from Miranda College on Wednesday breathed her last after fighting for her life for five days.
She was one of the four DU students who were severely injured in an accident where an Uber car rammed into a truck parked near Noida Sector 16A on Friday, September 23.
Kaayum and her other friends were returning from Greater Noida on September 23 after celebrating a birthday party. While coming back they booked an Uber which hit a truck. The survivors of the accident said that they repeatedly requested the driver from speeding but he just did not heed them.
The other three victims, Tanuz Kalita is a student of SGBT college, Siddharth Patha is a student of Swami Shraddhanand College and Akshara Badola is a student of Mata Sundari College.
While Tanuz was discharged after primary treatment, Akshara and Siddharth are still being treated at the hospital.
Tanuz said, “The driver was smoking in the cab and was speeding. He crashed into a stationary truck. He abandoned the cab and fled from the spot. The police arrested him on the same day.”
Following his arrest, the police produced him in court and he was later released on bail.
