Rahul Gandhi hits back at RSS: I will continue to fight for the unity of this country

New Delhi: After, facing the session of the defamation case by RSS at a local court in Guwahati, Assam, the Congress vice-president while addressing the media outside the court said, "I am against the ideology of RSS and other organisations that try to divide this nation."

"These cases are being put against me because I'm fighting for poor people, rights of farmers and unemployed youths", "I will not be deterred; I’m happy, let them put as many cases as they want, I’ll continue to fight for the unity of this country", he further added.



The Congress vice-president, on Thursday had arrived at a local court in Guwahati, Assam, in order to face trial in a criminal defamation case for his remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over temple entry issue in Barpeta last year.



The controversy erupted when the RSS volunteer Anjan Bora had filed the criminal defamation case against the Congress vice president in the chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Kamrup's court. The FIR alleged that RaGa allegedly harmed the reputation of the organisation by not allowing him to enter the Barpeta Satra which is a 16th Vaishnavite monastery, in Assam on December 12, 2015.



As per a spokesman of Congress' state unit, Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Guwahati in morning and will appear before the court. Later he is also expected to address a meeting of party workers before returning to New Delhi the same evening.

Previously in New Delhi, while addressing the media said that some RSS workers prevented him from entering the Satra. He also alleged that the RSS have incited the local women to prevent him from entering the Satra.

The next hearing will take place on November 5.
