New Delhi: A depression-struck retired pilot committed suicide on Saturday evening at his Mayur Vihar residence in New Delhi before trying to kill his wife and son with his private revolver.

Anand Kumar Singh, a 61-year-old retired pilot, was suffering from depression and had undergone kidney transplant operation last year, the police said after carrying out the preliminary investigation.

No suicide note was found along with the deceased pilot. Singh had an argument with his wife Rajlaxmi and daughter Abhilasha, following which, in a fit of rage, the pilot went on a rampage.

“He was a pilot with a private airline. Last year, he had taken voluntary retirement on medical grounds,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police. “Singh’s body has been sent for post-mortem and inquest proceeding under Section 174 of CrPC has been initiated into the matter. His wife and daughter are safe and unhurt. Further investigations are on.”

The police said that Singh had used his licensed revolver and started firing at his wife and daughter. When they escaped Singh unhurt, the deranged pilot then killed himself.
