New Delhi: Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be the Chief Guest at India's Republic Day in New Delhi in 2017.
Confirming the news of the prince’s visit, MEA tweeted out, “We hope to welcome a dear friend of India, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, as Republic Day 2017 Chief Guest.”
“The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is a well-wisher of India. Honour to have him as chief guest for RDay'17,” Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
According to reports, the Crown Prince of Abhu Dhabi has accepted the invitation.
In a letter to PM Modi, Shaikh Mohammad expressed thanks for the invitation to attend India's Republic Day celebrations.
"Our strong relations are deeply rooted in history; our strategic cooperation has increased, driven by our mutual aspirations to develop it," Shaikh Mohammad said.
This is for the first time that a leader of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been honoured with the invitation of being the chief guest at the India’s Republic Day celebrations.
The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year visited UAE after a period of 34 years.
