New Delhi: In a move by the Indian Railways to limit the perks for Foreign nationals and Non-Resident Indian senior citizens, the railway ministry has decided to not give away railway ticket concessions.
According to a notification by the Indian Railways, senior citizen concession shall not be admissible to foreign nationals and NRIs. This has come to effect from September of this year.
But the concession on railway tickets to senior citizens permanently residing in India will continue. According to the revised rule, male citizens aged above 60 are given 40 per cent concession while female citizens aged above 58 get 50 per cent concessions on tickets.
The new rule has come months after the railway decided to withdraw the half ticket facility for children aged between 5 and 12 years.
