New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Thursday met families of 39 Indian nationals’ who had been taken hostage by Islamic State (IS) militants in June 2014 from Mosul, Iraq. The Minister assured them that the hostages were alive but the Indian government did not have any proof in this regard. 
 
She conveyed to them about the government efforts that were on to ensure the safe release of the captive Indian nationals, Sushma Swaraj said, “Have information of them (Indian nationals captive in Iraq) being alive, however we do not have any proof.”
 
“Maare jaane ki na khabar hai na saboot,” Sushma added.
 
 
Speaking about the government’s efforts to bring them back, Swaraj said, “We are continuously making efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised this issue wherever possible, I also raise it … our ministers to raise it.”
 
The Foreign Minister also asked the families to keep patience as government efforts were on ensure safety to the Indians in Iraq.
