New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed former state vice president Dayashankar's wife, Swati Singh, as the BJP's women's wing chief. The post of the state women's wing chief was lying vacant since April after Madhu Mishra was expelled for making 'anti-Dalit' remarks.
Dayashankar's wife got into the limelight after she took on BSP leaders when they made denigrate comments against her as well as her daughter while protesting against Dayashankar Singh's alleged derogatory words against BSP chief Mayawati.
However, UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya, avoided the questions in relation the return of Dayashankar Singh to the party.
Dayashankar who is at present out on bail was sacked by the party after his derogatory remarks and was later booked under SCST act. The BJP's decision to appoint Swati Singh to a key post in the poll-bound state has come just two days before Mayawati is due to hold a rally on October 9.
