Lucknow: On the occasion of Vijaya Dashmi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh to celebrate the auspicious festival. He will attend Dussehra Mahotsav at the Aishbagh Ramleela Ground.

People burn effigies of demon king Ravana on Dussehra, a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. According to mythology, Lord Rama killed Ravana, the king of Lanka on this day.

The Prime Minister will participate in a 'Ram aarti' ritual and will also watch Ramleela.

Earlier on the day, he greeted the nation on micro blogging site Twitter.

"Vijaya Dashmi greetings to you all," said Modi in a tweet.

Referring to India's surgical strikes across the Line of Control, Modi has announced that this year's celebration of Vijaya Dashami will be 'very special'.
