New Delhi: Muharram processions in Allahabad on Wednesday took a tragic turn when a high voltage wire fell on the procession, instantly killing one and injuring several others in the incident.

People taking part in the Muharram procession were enraged and blamed the department of electricity for the incident. The agitated people also raised slogans and blocked roads after the incident.

The place where the incident took place is 40 kilometres away from the city. Among the nine injured, five are in critical condition.

The Mourning of Muharram, Remembrance of Muharram, or Muharram Observances, is a set of rituals associated with both Shia and Sunni, which takes place in Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Many of the events associated with the ritual take place in congregation halls known as Hussainia.
