New Delhi: The United States on Wednesday backed India for its response to Pakistan in the form of surgical strikes conducted after the Uri attack, saying that it supports the right of self-defence that every country enjoys. At the same time, US also emphasized on the need of India to be cautious and prudent, due to the kind of relationship it shares with Pakistan.
 
US National Security Adviser Susan Rice made a call to her Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on September 28, condemning the terror attack on an army base camp in Uri, which claimed the lives of 19 soldiers. 
 
The senior director, South Asia desk, National Security Council at the White House, Lavoy termed Uri attacks as “cross-border terrorism from Pakistan” and condemned it by calling it a “horrific attack”.
 
Lavoy said that US extends its support to India and its other partner countries in preventing such terror attacks in the coming future. 
 
He also mentioned that US is making efforts to ensure that India gets a seat in the Nuclear Suppliers Group by the end of this year.
