Pak DGMO acknowledges having Indian army jawan in custody

New Delhi: A Pakistani DGMO on Thursday acknowledged that they have an Indian Army Jawan Chandu Chavan in custody, according to army sources.

A couple of weeks ago, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar while speaking about efforts to bring back Chandu Chavan had said that it will take 'some days' to bring him back. Chandu Chavan was in Pakistan’s custody after he inadvertently crossed over to the other side of LoC few days ago.

"He had crossed over which happens in border areas. There is a well-established mechanism through DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) which has been activated," the minister said.

"Since the situation is tense right now, it will take some days to bring the soldier back," he added.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also assured the family of the soldier that efforts are being made to secure his release.

However, unfortunately, the aged grandmother of Chandu Babulal Chavan, Lila Chindha Patil died of apparent shock after she heared about the news of her grandson. Chavan is a resident of Borvihir town near Dhule in Maharashtra.
