UTTAR PRADESH: Shocking statements coming from the Uttar Pradesh ministers are nothing new. Earlier, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was in a big soup for making sexist remarks. He said that rapists, most of the times are kids, and kids are bound to make ‘mistakes’. He also said that we cannot hang these kids till death for such mistakes, while his son, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too made derogatory remarks after two sisters were found hanging in Badaun village after being raped. The CM while addressing a press conference in his state had reverted to a security lack query of a woman journalist where he said, “aapko toh kuch nahi hua na yahan (you have not gone through something like this in my state).”

Well, this time, it is another minister from the Uttar Pradesh government, UP Processing and Construction Cooperative Federation Ltd. (PACCFED) Chairman Tota Ram Yadav who has given an insensitive statement in media over the increasing cases of rape in the country.

Degrading the morality, Yadav while speaking to reporters in Mainpuri said that there is nothing like rape and whatever happens, is always with a mutual consent. He further added that women allow men to rape them as they want to be raped.

Mahilaaon ke saath ‘Rape’ hota hi nahi; aapsi sehmati se mahilaayein balatkaar karwa leti hain (Rape never happens with women instead they mutually agree to get raped.)”

Adding to his sexist remarks, he said that a girl initially permits a boy to do everything with her but when it becomes public; she tags it as ‘rape’.

Amid major controversy over the remarks by Yadav, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demands Akhilesh government to sack the UP Minister, while other SP leaders have completely disassociated themselves with the statement.

Gaurav Bhatia of the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh while speaking to NewsX said, “It is absolutely shocking to hear such a statement. We will take a cognizance of it and will see what needs to be done.”

He added, “It is an unacceptable statement and absolutely condemnable. Please do not politicize this and this remark is simply not the party or government’s stand.”
