New Delhi: Alleging dowry harassment against her husband and her in-laws, the wife of a national kabbadi player committed suicide in the national capital.
Lalita, 27-years-old, was married to national kabbadi player Rohit Kumar who also plays in the Pro-Kabbadi League. Police on Tuesday evening found Lalita's body hanging from the ceiling at her residence in Nangloi.
Before her suicide, Lalita had recorded a two-hour long message sharing the ordeal she went through under her husband and her in-laws. Marriage with Rohit Kumar was Lalita's second marriage which became a repeated thing to be pointed out and taunted by the father-in-law.
Lalita accuses her husband and her in-laws of "mental and physical harassment" among other issues in her marriage.
On October 15, Rohit allegedly told his wife that he would be very happy if she were to stay away from his life. This revelation might put up a case of abetting or aiding suicide against Rohit Kumar.
"A case was registered under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 304(B) (dowry death)," a senior police officer said.
Rohit's family who lives in Delhi's Kanjhawla area has been absconding since the incident and police are on the lookout for them.
Rohit Kumar, aside from being national kabbadi player, plays for Bengaluru Bulls in the Pro-Kabbadi League.
