New Delhi: The first woman to climb Everest, Japanese mountaineer Junko Tabei has passed away at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.
Tabei had conquered the world’s highest mountain in May 1975. She later went on to climb all the world’s highest peaks.
She was diagnosed with abdomen cancer four years ago. Tabei had last climbed Mount Fuji in July along with high school students affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
