New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday will hear the plea filed by four convicts – Akshay, Mukesh, Pawan and Vinay Sharma accused in gangrape case that took place on December 16, 2012.
The four were awarded death sentences by a court in September 2013 of rape and murder of Nirbhaya. The sentence and conviction was upheld by Delhi High Court in March 2014.
The convicts have moved the Supreme Court to get a stay on the execution and the court began its hearing in July 2016.
In August 2016, convict Vinay Sharma allegedly tried to commit suicide by using towel to hang himself in Tihar jail.
The woman was assaulted by six people in a moving bus in South Delhi on December 16, 2012. She died in a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012 triggering nation-wide protests calling for legal reforms and an overhaul of attitudes to women.
