Several terrorists involved in Manipur ambush killed on India-Myanmar border, Army claims

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army carried out an operation on the Indo-Myanmar border and on Tuesday, it announced of killing several terrorists involved in Manipur attack in Chandel district on June 4.18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Regiment were martyred in the ambush. 

Additional Director General, Military Operations, Major General Ranbir Singh informed that Army unit got intelligence reports that more attacks were going to be carried out in the region. “Based on these reports, we conducted operations and conducted operations in the morning and significant casualties have been reported. Today morning, two separate groups were engaged at two places near the Indo-Myanmar border and along the Nagaland-Manipur border. Any threat to our safety and security will meet a firm response.”

He further added that ‘the attacks were carried out in coordination with Myanmar and the army looks forward to more operations in cooperation with the neighbouring country.’

At around 9 AM, the attack at the 6 Dogra Regiment was carried out by terror groups functioning on the Tengnoupal-New Samtal road between Paralong and Charong villages, about 80 km from Manipur capital Imphal.

The terrorists before using rocket propelled grenades and automatic assault rifles to pin down the soldiers had first hit the army truck carrying soldiers by a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The ambush resulted in heaviest casualty suffered by the force in more than three decades. 

Apart from the 18 soldiers killed in the incident, 11 other soldiers were injured.

Naga insurgent unit Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-A (NSCN) along with Manipuri outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) claimed responsibility for the attack on the group.
