Lucknow: Ahead of the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh, the most populated state in the country, vote bank politics has begun. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, on Tuesday, extended her support for the popularly debated ‘triple talaq’ issue. This is seen in light of wooing of the Muslim vote bank.
Mayawati said that issues related to Sharia should not be politicised. She further added that the politicisation of triple talaq is condemnable.
The BSP supremo also said that the religious matters should be handled within that particular religion.
There are speculations that the Muslim vote bank will be attracted towards BSP and a large number of votes might fall in BSP’s kitty.
There are some strong reactions against Mayawati by the other political parties in Uttar Pradesh. Some parties said that being a woman Mayawati should not support triple talaq.
