New Delhi: Following a tip-off, Meerut police seized a large quantity of cow meat during a raid from a farm in Janikala village, Meerut. The raid was conducted on Monday late night after police received information about the export of cow meat.
The incident triggered protests by some Hindu outfits and BJP workers who blocked the Meerut-Baghpat road bringing the traffic to a complete halt for at least three hours.
Further disclosing the matter, SHO Rann Sighn said, “The smugglers were trying to transport the cow meat and fled after seeing the police”. Following the seizure, a local veterinary officer Rakesh Rai was called to conduct post mortem of the meat, which confirmed it as cow meat, SHO added.
Following the protests over the cow slaughter, Praveen Ranjan and SDM Dinesh Chand later reached the spot and cleared the road after assuring the protestors of strict action against the guilty.
Two car trunks filled with the cow meat were seized by the police from the spot.
The probe is still on and two special teams have been formed to nab the accused who still remain at large, said the police official.
