New Delhi: A government college in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, has come under attack for making the identification of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students easy by the distribution of bags which clearly mention SC/ST on them.

About 250 students of undergraduate and postgraduate students have received these bags. Along with the bag, they were also given a pen, a notebook and a calculator.

“What’s wrong if it is spelled out clearly, because the bags were distributed under a welfare scheme? If some people don’t like it, I will get the words erased. In any case, it was the supplier who wrote it on the bags,’’ principal B R Nalvaya told The Indian Express.

However, after this incident has come to light, the principal of the college has assured he will get the SC/ST tag erased from the rest of the bags. The controversy began after photographs of the bags were circulated on social media.

The leaders of the opposition have termed this act atrocious and have demanded action against those responsible.
