New Delhi: The Maharashtra government has transferred forest official who was investigating destruction of mangroves by comedian-actor Kapil Sharma in Andheri West, Mumbai.

Makarand Ghodke, the former assistant conservator of forest, state mangrove cell has been transferred to Chief Conservator of Forest, Thane.

In September, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai registered a complaint against Sharma and actor Irrfan Khan at Oshiwara police station for illegal constructions.

Few days later, an FIR was ordered against all those owning bungalows on Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) land at Versova who destroyed mangroves to extend their properties.

The comedian claimed that he purchased the 1,000 square metres residential plot in Versova in February 2010 and after completing all formalities, he was given a full occupation certificate in November 2016.

He said that he had been paying Rs 15 crore as Income Tax to the government, but still had to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to officials.
