New Delhi: The Centre is of the view that the two most known markets of the national capital – Connaught Place and Khan Market should be turned into vehicle-free zones. He said that such a thing can be achieved by making proper parking arrangements and managing traffic properly.

Urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu reviewed the New Delhi Municipal Council’s “Smart City” project on Wednesday and came up with the view that the major markets within the jurisdiction of the civic body must be made free of vehicles.

Naidu was also of the opinion that the stretch between CP and IGI airport should be converted into a “smart road” by the NDMC and south municipal corporation.

Naidu told NDMC officials that the “smart city” project, worth Rs 1900 crore should be implemented by June 2018.
Naidu also discussed various features of the NDMC locations, such as presence of digital screens to display information regarding weather, pollution traffic flow etc. He also said that FM and radio should be used to disseminate information and that there should be WiFi in all the NDMC areas.
