New Delhi: A jilted man in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday slit the throat of a woman with a broken glass bottle in Coimbatore after she rejected his advances.

Vemburaj, a 28-year-old software engineer hailed from Theni district attacked Kannagalakshmi, who is pursuing her Masters in Computer Applications at Bharatiyar University.

The accused who had quitted his job recently befriended Kannagalakshmi on Facebook. He wanted to be in a relationship with her but she refused. Later, he contacted the victim frequently over phone.

Kannagalakshmi’s father warned Vemburaj from making any further attempts to contact his daughter and she changed her phone number as well.

Following the rejection, Vemburaj came to her college and tried to convince her but failed. Subsequently he slit her throat with a broken glass bottle.

Kannagalakshmi was rushed to a hospital in where doctors confirmed that she is stable and has been discharged.

 Vemburaj was arrested on the charge of murder attempt and was remanded to 15 days’ judicial custody in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
