New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday from New Delhi. Earlier in the day, he met the Army chiefs and Navy staff to review the security preparedness of the armed forces guarding the borders.

Modi said corruption, black money and terrorism can come in the way of a country’s robust economic growth.

“Corruption and black money are the diseases rooted in this country and are the obstacles to the success of the nation. It is something we have fought for immediately after assuming office,” PM Modi said.

To check black money, PM Modi announced demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 100 currency notes.

PM Modi believed corruption and black money are the biggest hindrances in the fight against poverty and it is everyone’s responsibility to eradicate it.

During his address to the nation, the prime minister said a few people are spreading corruption for their own benefit.

“We hear stories of how auto rickshaw driver returns gold left by a passenger in his vehicle. These stories tell how common people are honest. It is only a few people “who engage in corruption for selfish reasons, “PM Modi said.

Praising the NDA govt, he said India was earlier 100 on global ranking of corruption and today it stands at 76th position.

He also said black money worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore has been brought back to India.
