New Delhi: In a big setback to Punjab government, the Supreme Court on Thursday quashed its legislation involving the water sharing with Haryana. The court announced the decision on Sutlej-Yamuna link canal row and said the Centre will now take over the canal and continue building it.

Protesting against the Supreme Court’s verdict, all Punjab Congress MLAs sent their resignations to Punjab PCC Chief Captain Amarinder Singh.

“Punjab Cong MLAs sent resignations to Amarinder Singh. They will submit it to the speaker in personal capacity tomorrow,” said Bharat Bhushan, Deputy CLP leader said.

Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu said Punjab can’t afford to give even a drop of water and the decision taken by the Supreme Court is against Punjab and in favour of Haryana.

Amarinder Singh also resigned as an MP, protesting against the SYL verdict.

“I am very disappointed and sad for Punjab because of this verdict, ” Amarinder Singh said.

“I have been saying this for long that he (Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal) must retire and let somebody else come,” he added.

The Congress leader said Parkash Singh Badal will know who is doing drama when the elections come because he keeps on saying unimportant stuff.
