New Delhi: Appointment of judges has been a reason for tussle between the Centre and judiciary for a long time. Centre on Friday has returned 43 names recommended by the collegium for appointment as high court judges.
A total of 77 names were recommended by the collegium. Out of these 34 have been cleared for appointment as high court judges, Mukul Rohatgi, Attorney General said.
The Attorney General informed the court that not a single file on appointment of judges is pending with the government.
The Supreme Court had earlier rapped the Centre for delay in appointment of judges to various high courts.
The collegium will have a meeting on November 15. Chief Justice TS Thakur told Centre
