New Delhi: At a time when a majority of the people in the nation are supporting government’s demonetisation move to crack down on black money and corruption, reports have of some unlawful practices by naxalites to convert their black money into white money.
According to reports, in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, naxals are forcing elderly people to exchange their unaccounted money post the government’s decision to ban two big value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Reports have surfaced that Left-wing extremists are forcing elderly people to deposit cash into their accounts.
“It is correct. We have received information that Naxals are using villagers to deposit their extortion money into bank accounts so that it can be converted into legal currency. Not only elderly people, but young people could also be involved in the practice,” Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Anoop Birtharay told reporters.
After receiving such reports, the police have begun conducting search operations to crack down on these illegal practices and to keep a close eye on the going ons in the area.
