New Delhi: In a bizarre case being reported from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, an elderly person has been sentenced to three-years of imprisonment for harassing a woman four years back.
The accused was later identified as Jeyaraj, a manager in a place of worship at Rathinapuri. He was booked for sexually abusing a woman staff on March 3, 2012. The 70-year-old accused, allegedly sexually exploited the 30-year-old woman and even threatened to dismiss her from the job.
Following the incident, the accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 (rape) and 4 of Tamil Nadu Women Harassment acts.
The Mahila Court acquitted the accused of rape charges and convicted him for harassing the woman as the rape charges weren’t proven.
The accused has been sentenced to three years of imprisonment. Also, the court ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
