New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a First Information Report against Islamic preacher Zakir Naik who has been in the news since the Dhaka terror attack.
The NIA conducted raids at ten locations in Maharashtra that had alleged links to the banned organisation Islamic Research Foundation which has been accused of receiving off-shore terror funds.
The FIR which was filed by the NIA pertains to the content of Zakir Naik’s speeches on Peace TV, a channel which is partly-funded by the IRF.
Zakir Naik is currently residing in Saudi Arabia and has refused to return to India for fear of being prosecuted by the Indian judiciary in connection with the Dhaka terror attack where terrorists killed 20 people.
The Islamic Research Foundation was banned for five years earlier this week following which, agencies were told to stay vigil on the activities of the foundation.
