Kanpur: Restoration work underway at the Kanpur train accident site where around 145 people were killed and more than 200 got injured.
As per latest reports, a special train with survivors of Indore-Patna Express reached Patna in early morning hours today.
Expressing his condolence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was anguished beyond words on loss of lives.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced the ‘exgratia amount of Rs 3.5 lakhs for deceased families; Rs 50,000 for critically injured and compensation of Rs 25,000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
In one of the worst train disasters, at least 145 people were killed and 200 injured after 14 coaches of Patna-Indore Express derailed near Pukharayan in Kanpur on early Sunday morning.
The tragedy occurred when the Patna-bound train’s coaches ran off the rails shortly after 3 am near Pukhrayan station, about 60 km from Kanpur city.
As per the Indian Railways officials, 14 coaches which derailed were seating cum luggage rake, GS, GS, A1, B1/2/3, BE, S1/2/3/4/5/6R.
