New Delhi: With demonetisation severely constricting the flow of cash in the country, an 18-year-old student in Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide after he was unable to withdraw money from the local bank for his examination fees.

The incident was reported from Mavai Buzurg village of Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, said the police. For the past several days, 18-year-old Suresh had been standing in queue to withdraw money for his examination fees. But he returned home empty-handed every day.

Unable to bear the frustration and rendered helpless by the bank, Suresh then hanged himself to death by using his mother’s saree.

Suresh was studying at the Panchnehi Degree College and was pursuing Bachelors in Science. The last date of the submission of the fees was on Wednesday.

After the news broke out, locals from Suresh’s village pelted stones at the bank. Police are conducting investigation into the matter.
