New Delhi: The Delhi Police came across a well-organised racket of fake packers and movers when they arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly duping a Delhi University professor under the guise of his having his things packed and moved.

The accused, Gajender Singh, used to lure unsuspecting victims by making a wrong entry in an online directory portal. The arrested individual is a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

Singh was arrested from Sector 49 on Monday, 22nd Nov.

The incident came to the light of the police when a Delhi University professor who was transferred to the Central University in Tezpur, Assam was targeted by the racketeer.

“Following the transfer order, the victim looked up packers and movers on Just Dial on October 1. Immediately, he started receiving calls from a person who introduced himself as the director of ‘Gati International Movers and Packers’,” police said.

Promising to deliver the belongings to the said address, the fake company took away the belongings on October 2. However, the said articles never reached their destination while the mobile numbers which were mentioned were switched off.

After the complaint, police tracked Gajender down and arrested him.
