New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who has suffered kidney failure, will not attend the Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar next month, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup gave the information during his weekly briefing here.
Pakistan’s foreign policy chief Sartaj Aziz would be attending the Heart of Asia Conference being held in Amritsar on December 3 and 4.
The conference on development and security in Afghanistan is likely to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
Swarup did not confirm the possibility of bilateral talks with Pakistan, stating that talks and terror can’t go together.
The conference will witness the participation of over 40 countries.
Aziz would be the first senior Pakistani official to visit India since the September 18 Uri attack, blamed on Pakistan-based militants.
Sushma Swaraj is waiting for a kidney transplant and is under close observation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
