New Delhi: In a historic move, Indian Railways and IRCTC have included ‘Transgender’ as third gender under general category alongside male and female in the ticket reservation and cancellation forms.
The decision was taken on a representation made by an advocate and will include the facility for reservations and cancellations, both online and offline.
The lawyer Jamshed Ansari had filed a PIL before the Delhi HC alleging violation of Article 14, 15, 19 and 21 of the Constitution by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), by non-inclusion of “transgender” as a gender option in its forms.
Ansari has also demanded special coaches and reserved seats for transgenders in all the trains.
