New Delhi: In the wake of demonetisation, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Wednesday conducted searches at 40 different locations across the country in order to check black money held with currency exchangers, hawala dealers and others.

Days ago, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had taken a dig at PM Narendra Modi alleging that there has been a 10-fold rise in generation of black money after demonetisation. He said duplicate notes are more rapidly printed than the actual note.

Since the BJP-led government announced demonetisation on November 8, opposition parties held protests against the decision calling it a “scam”.

Following the cash crunch, the Left had demanded the government to allow people to use the old money at least until December 31 for minor transactions.
