New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate officials on Wednesday recovered new notes worth Rs 10 lakh from the chamber of a doctor in Salt Lake.
“We are looking into the doctor’s source of income. With the government-stipulated withdrawal limits in place, it is difficult for someone to possess so much cash in new currency notes,” said an ED official.
ED also carried out raids on the premises of hawala operators exchanging foreign currencies illegally without maintaining any record of transactions.
The finance ministry had earlier directed all revenue intelligence agencies to crack down on bullion traders, jewellers, hawala dealers and bank officials indulging in illegal exchange of banned currency.
