New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 5.2 struck the Nepal-India border at around 10.22 pm on Thursday evening. Tremors were felt in parts of Uttarakhand including Champawat, Srinagar, Garhwal and Almora.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 24 kilometres north east of Dharchula in Uttarakhand, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

Earlier in the day, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck Himachal Pradesh's Kullu. No loss of life or property was reported.

The hilly areas around Himachal Pradesh are highly vulnerable to earthquakes.

A mock exercise was conducted on November 24 in seven districts of the state -- Shimla, Kangra, Mandi Chamba, Solan, Kinnaur and Kullu -- to generate awareness and evaluate the response mechanism.
