Rs 95 lakhs seized in Hyderabad

New Delhi: A cab stuffed with over Rs 95 lakhs in new currency of Rs 2000 notes was seized by the Hyderabad Police in a vehicle checking drive carried out in the city.
Further disclosing the seizure, police said that a car which was seating 5 people was stopped at Himayatnagar for checking. While conducting the checks police found a total of amount of Rs 95,18,000 was found stashed in the bags.
When questioned about the money, the people travelling in the car were unable to give out a satisfactory explanation about the cash.
The amount has been seized and the matter has been further reported to Income Tax department for further investigations.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 on November 8, a series of incidents have surfaced where a hefty amount of cash has been seized in Income tax raids and also by the state police in different checks.
