NEW DELHI: Stepping up its attack on Sushma Swaraj, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday questioned that why didn’t the Modi government appeal against the court relief to the former IPL Chief in his passport matter.

Addressing a press conference, the former Union Minister raised several question in the Lalit Modi row. “Who took the decision not to appeal against Delhi High Court order that restored passport to Lalit Modi?” he asked adding that the Narendra Modi must make it public that who took the call of issuing a fresh passport to Lalit Modi.

“Why did she feel he should have UK travel documents rather than Indian travel documents?” he further asked.

Chidambaram who held the finance portfolio in the UPA government also dared the NDA government to release the letters written by him to UK government in 2012 about the case.

Sharing a brief of his conversation, the former minister said that he wrote to the UK government that Lalit Modi was being investigated in India and his passport had been cancelled.

“In the letter, I told UK government that Lalit Modi was without valid passport and urged them to take steps to send him back to India,” Chidamabaram said.

Speaking on the Sushma Swaraj’s ‘humanitarian grounds’ claims, Chidambaram said that it raises several questions. “If Sushma wanted to support Lalit on humanitarian grounds, she should have asked him to go to Indian High Commission,” Chidambaram said.
