New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the Muslim community on the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

"My greetings to the Muslim community as the holy month of Ramadan begins. May this Ramadan brings peace and happiness in everyone's lives," Modi said on his Twitter account.

"May this holy month also enhance the spirit of harmony and togetherness in society," he added.

Ramadan is observed as a fasting period by Muslims, who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset.
