New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a verbal onslaught against Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding demonetisation and the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign which had been introduced by the government in 2014.
A ‘rejuvenated’ Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at PM Modi’s much-campaigned and advertised Swachh Bharat move which—Rahul said—was only facetious. “Two and half years ago, Modi ji came and said that he will clean Hindustan. Instead, he handed a broomstick to everyone. It became a fashion; three-four days later, they forgot about it,” he said.
“The Prime Minister needs to spend some time with the poor farmers of the country and ask them why suddenly people are running to villages?” Gandhi said.
Pointing at the dip in sales of automobiles after the demonetisation announcement, the Congress VP said, “Today I read in newspaper that PM said he will transform India. But PM needs to ask himself why suddenly auto sales have fallen.”

“Our friends in the media are under constraints,” Rahul said as he talked about ‘people’s reluctance to openly criticise PM Modi’. “They come to me and say they want to say something but can’t.”
Rahul also said that Congress had respected institutions like RBI, judiciary, press for 60 years. “Modi ji shut it down within two and a half years,” he said.
“People in the country are wondering when are ‘Acche din going to come’. I’ll tell them it will come when Congress comes to power again,” Rahul Gandhi remarked.
