New Delhi: Ernakulam North police on Tuesday arrested a spiritual guru, Swami Himaval Maheswara Bhadrananda for his derogatory Facebook posts that seemed to have hurt the religious sentiments of people.
Further disclosing the matter, Ernakulam North Circle Inspector TB Vijayan said that Bhadrananda had posted some derogatory posts against the Muslim community hurting their sentiments later posted some posts against a few Hindu organisations also.
The inspector further added that post the report filed, police charged a suo moto case against him. After his posts got controversial, he removed them and followed up by posts against a few Hindu organisations.
The issue will be heard at the additional sessions court in North Parur and the trial has been postponed to January 12.
Swami Himaval Maheswara Bhadrananda was earlier arrested in 2008 for opening fire near Aluva police station. Allegedly his pistol had gone off twice which injured him and a reporter. More than 30 people had given statements in court regarding this incident.
Previously, on Tuesday BJP MP Sakshi Maharj was issued a show cause notice by EC for his derogatory remarks targeting a community at a ‘sammelan’ in Meerut.
