Bathinda: After getting off to a shaky start in the campaign for the upcoming assembly elections, things, it seems, have gone from bad to worse for Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

During one of his poll campaigns on Wednesday, a man allegedly threw a shoe towards the country's oldest serving Chief Minister. The CM was touring Lambi, his own constituency, when this incident happened.

As per reports, a man named Gurbachan Singh, was nabbed by Badal's security personnel and handed over to police for questioning.

It was learnt that Singh was upset over a recent incident of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib and the failure of the Punjab government and police to nab the culprits.

Earlier, the Chief Minister faced heavy criticism as underpriviledged residents of Lalbhai village in Punjab tried to sabotage his speech, claiming that they had not received grants for toilet construction.

Badal's close family members are all in the government. Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Akali Dal President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, now dominates both party and government affairs. Badal's daughter-in-law Harsimrat Badal is the Union Minister for Food Processing. His son-in-law Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon is a cabinet minister in his government as is Harsimrat's younger brother, Bikram Singh Majithia.
