New Delhi: Five Indian army soldiers, who were rescued after being hit by an avalanche in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir; succumbed to their injuries on Monday.

The deceased soldiers were trapped under the snow after an avalanche hit the army post on 28th January at Machil sector in Kupwara district, J&K. After several hours of search and rescue operation, the 5 soldiers were rescued and were put under immediate medical attention.

The series of avalanches that hit the army posts in past week had already consumed 15 lives of Indian army soldiers in Gurez and this tragedy takes the tally up to 20.

Moreover, the mortal remains of the 15 Gurez avalanche victims, which couldn’t be evacuated to Srinagar due to bad weather, were brought to the J&K capital and will be sent to their respective homes on Tuesday.
