A man resembling missing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed, who was detained by the Delhi police on Tuesday, has been released.

Police said that they received a call from a retired CBI officer claiming that he had seen Najeeb in Delhi’s Kapashera area.

“We were informed that a man, who resembles Najeeb, has been spotted near Kapashera. The caller said he has grown a beard in order to hide his identity and also looks dishevelled,” a senior police officer told PTI.

But after the verification, it was concluded that the man was someone else.

“The man was identified as Manohar, a vagabond hailing from Maharashtra. His features resembled Najeeb,” he added.

Najeeb Ahmed, a student of JNU, went missing from the campus on October 15, reportedly following an altercation with a few Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists.
