The first Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of New Andhra Pradesh, Kodela Siva Prasad Rao on Friday sparked a controversy by delivering a speech with apparent sexism involved.

Andhra’s assembly speaker Rao, who has ties with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), caused an outrage when he said that no rapes will happen if women were ‘parked’ at home like cars.

A negligent Rao said, “In the older times, when women were housewives they were safe from all kind of atrocities except discrimination.”

“Today they are studying, working; they are also doing business which has exposed them to society. When they are exposed to society, they are prone to eve teasing, harassment, rape and kidnap… if they don’t leave home, it won’t happen,” he added.

This is not the first time that such a shameful remark has come from an entity who is supposed to lead by example. Leaders such as Sharad Yadav, Vinay Katiyar, Abu Azmi, and the list goes on, have all undermined and objectified women.
