Nehru's Wikipedia pages edited by government?

NEW DELHI: Escalating the attack against the Narendra Modi headed government at the Centre, the Congress on Wednesday claimed that several harmful changes were made in the Wikipedia pages of the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his forefathers alleging that the changes were made from a government of India IP (Internet Protocol) address.

The former ruling party has further alleged that software that tracks anonymous Wikipedia edits has found that mischievous editing was done on the entries made on June 26 which was later deleted by volunteer editors of the online encyclopedia.

The revelation was made by a Twitter handle @AnonGoIWPEdits that claims that someone from a government of India IP address made malicious revisions to Jawaharlal Nehru’s Wikipedia page.

Speaking on the same, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, “Wikipedia pages of Jawaharlal Nehru, Motilal Nehru were altered. What is worse it was done from a government IP and from National Informatics Centre.”

Questioning PM Modi over the matter, the Congress leader said, “Will PM answer how were Wikipedia pages of former Prime ministers and Congress leaders altered through a Government IP?”

According to the reports, the mischievous edits made stated, “Gangadhar was born as a Muslim by the name of Ghiasuddin Ghazi but changed his name to a Hindu Ganga Dhar to escape British clutches.”

Not only this, similar changes were also made on the pages of Similar edits were made on the pages of Ganga Dhar's son Motilal Nehru and grandson Jawaharlal. The page of the former PM had scandalous details of his ‘affair’ with Edwina Mountbatten, the wife of India's first governor general, Lord Mountbatten.
