Four years after she named Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Arun Verma and seven others for gang-rape, the 21-year-old survivor was found murdered near her house last Saturday night; police conducting investigation in the case suspect that the gang-rape survivor was poisoned and then strangled.

Arun Verma, who is a legislator representing the Sultanpur constituency, was the first candidate to be campaigned by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for the Uttar Pradesh elections.

However, Verma has denied his involvement in the case and said that he demands a CBI investigation into the case.

The father of the deceased woman said that she had gone to the bathroom around 7 PM on Saturday, following which, the girl did not return home. When he contacted the police, they found her lifeless body near the area.

In 2013, Verma’s name was mentioned by the father of the victim. However, he was acquitted of all charges as police carried out the investigation.
