Election Commission has termed the ‘exit poll’ conducted by the Resource Development International and its results published by Hindi daily Dainik Jagran as a clear violation of the model code of conduct and Representation of the People Act.

An Election Commission spokesperson said, “It is in clear violation of Section 126 A&B of the Representation of the People Act and wilful disobedience of lawful directions of the Commission under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. Reports have been sought from the UP Chief Electoral Officer urgently.”

The district election officer (DEO) was immediately asked by the election commission to file an FIR against the managing director and other key officials and authorities of Resource Development International and Dainik Jagran.

The DEO has also asked to file an FIR against managing editor, editor in chief, editor or chief editor of Dainik Jagran.

The Chief Election Officer for the state has also been directed to file a compliance report by 6PM on Monday.

The Hindi newspaper on the first phase of Uttar Pradesh polling for 73 constituencies held on February 11, showed that BJP was projected to bag the most seats. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) stood second, while the SP-Congress combine stood third in the “public feedback” survey.
