Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict in the disproportionate assets case on Tuesday, AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala, told media that she will accept the decision and that “Dharma will triumph”.

In a major setback for Sasikala Natarajan, who was aspiring to be the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the Supreme convicted her in the 21-year-old disproportionate assets case.

Setting aside Karnataka High Court’s previous order, the apex court awarded VK Sasikala a jail term of 4 years, asking her to surrender immediately.

A bench of two judges P C Ghose and Amitava Roy pronounced their judgment ruling that Sasikala conspired along with J Jayalalithaa to amass wealth in excess of 60 crores, in the 1990s.

Justice Roy, in a concurring judgment, expressed deep concern over the “escalating menace of corruption in society”.

Supreme Court’s ruling debars Sashikala from contesting elections for six years.
