An Indian Army jawan on Sunday allegedly killed the fiance of his former girlfriend at a bus stand in Rupnagar area of Punjab. The deceased has been identified as Neeraj Kumar.

Police investigating the case said that Neeraj Kumar, 27, and Shivani Sharma, 26, were going to Nalagarh from Una in Himachal Pradesh which was their hometown.

Kamal Dev, 27, who was still bitter about his former partner being betrothed to someone else, was harassing the couple on the bus. After the couple got off at a bus stand in Rupnagar, Kamal Dev attacked Neeraj Kumar with a sharp weapon. Shivani Sharma was also seriously injured while trying to save her fiance.

Neeraj Kumar received serious injuries around his neck and was declared brought dead at the hospital. The injured woman was taken to Chandigarh’s Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research.

Kamal Dev was caught by a mob and was beaten and handed over the police after he attacked the couple.

Reportedly, Dev was enraged at the fact that his relationship with Shivani Sharma had not been approved by the girl’s family. She soon got engaged to Kumar and their wedding date was set in August.
